Open-ended Montessori Toys for 3-5 year olds
As your kids get older their interests will develop and mature. Although I advocate for kids playing outside most of the time, there are times when the weather is bad and it is nice to have some things to entertain them inside the house. In all toys, we look for open-endedness, ability to kids to play by themselves and ease of clean up. These 5 toys or activities check all those boxes and my kids have loved playing with these at various stages of their development. Wooden blocks: Wooden blocks are a classic open-ended toy that allow children to use their imagination and creativity to build and construct. They also help develop fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills.
Play silks: Play silks are large, brightly colored pieces of fabric that children can use for imaginative play. They can be used as capes, skirts, scarves, or as part of a fort or tent. Play silks are also great for sensory play, as they can be used to explore texture, color, and light.
Pattern Blocks and Boards: These sets typically consist of wooden or plastic shapes in different colors and a board with patterns. Children can use their problem-solving skills to match the shapes and create their own designs.
Play kitchen: A play kitchen is a great way for children to engage in imaginative play and develop their social skills. Montessori-style play kitchens are simple and realistic, with real kitchen tools and utensils that children can use to cook and prepare pretend meals.
Animal figurines: Animal figurines are a great open-ended toy that can be used for imaginative play, storytelling, and even learning about different animals and their habitats. Montessori-style animal figurines are realistic and accurate, allowing children to explore and learn about the natural world around them.

So getting more stuff for your kids is almost never necessary but if you want to add a few staple items that you will get a lot of mileage out of, consider picking up one or more of these Montessori inspired toys.
