Super fun, helpful and to the point. Taylor Calmus uses his wit and humor to communicate timeless truths about fatherhood while also giving some insights into what is going on with your baby and wife. This is probably my favorite book for expecting fathers right now. I love the light-hearted nature of it and the practical tips.

the first 40 days book

This one is much more than a cookbook. It is a whole philosophy for how to take care of a mother during and for the first 40 days after the child is born. Heng Ou gives great insights and applies ancient wisdom to the modern time. This will come in handy when helping your wife recover after birth and give you some tools and language to help support her.

Family Revision is not necessarily a book for expecting dads but it is a must read for all dads. It will give you a grander vision for what it means to be a father and a leader of your family. It talks about the importance of building a family team and gives practical tips on how to get there. If you are only ever going to read one book, I’d recommend this one.

This book was surprisingly spot on. Full of good insights and encouragement and easy to read. He does have a different experience being a famous football player and has a bit more money than the normal guy but the wisdom applies and is true no matter how much money you have.

This one is more of a textbook or resources to flip through. Odds are your wife already has this one. During our first pregnancy, my wife read me little excerpts to keep me up to date on what was happening with our little one. This one is comprehensive and if you read it cover to cover you’ll be good to go.

I might be a little biased, but this is a great book! I wrote this in an attempt to distill down wisdom that I’ve learned during my journey as a father and interviewing other dads. Easy to read and to the point, this is great primer for any dad to be.

Whatever you decide to read as a dad, just go for it and use it as a jumping off point for conversations with your wife. We need to be thinking about birth and pregnancy so we can be there to support our wives during this life changing season.
